Adult Volunteer Opportunities

These are the positions available for Adult Volunteers (over 18) at camp. Volunteer spots are limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we encourage you to submit the required information promptly. We will do our best to honor your request for a certain position; however, we reserve the right to change your position if it is in the best interest of the camp. We cannot accommodate volunteers who wish to bring non-enrolled children or pets with them to volunteer.

Camp Hope for Kids also needs volunteers to renovate the campgrounds and provide other services. If you have skills as a carpenter, landscaper, teacher, environmentalist, gardener, chef, restaurant or kitchen manager, nurse, sports coach, dance or theater instructor, etc. please consider joining our volunteers. Administrative Assistant (1 per week): Assist Kathy Whetzel (HFK Admin) with all things administrative at camp.

Mental Health Assistants (2 per week): Assist with campers who need some personal “chill” time at camp.

IT Assistant (1 per week): Assist with sound, printers, computers, all things “IT.”

Camp Nurse (RN) (1-2 needed per week):¬†Must be a PHYSICIAN or a LICENSED RN with a PA license or a temporary license to practice in PA. Should have current CPR/First Aid certification. ¬†Responsible for intake and distribution of medications, treatment of minor injuries etc. No previous camp experience necessary. Allergy Kitchen Assistants (1-2 per week): You will prepare food for campers with food allergies. There is a separate kitchen where food for campers with allergies is kept and prepared. Experience with food allergies is very helpful. Questions can be emailed to Julie Brumley at

First Aid Station Assistant (2-4 needed per week):  You will assist the Nurses with their duties, such as assisting with medications, cleaning bathrooms and washing laundry.  Current First Aid & CPR certification is a plus, but not necessary. Kitchen Assistants (6-8 needed per week): You will assist the cook by prepping, serving and cleaning for each meal. You should be able to stand for long periods of time and lift at least 15 lbs. No previous experience required. Questions can be emailed to Julie Brumley at

Maintenance (4-6 needed per week) :¬†You will undertake many¬†maintenance type jobs around camp, such as repairing toilets, replacing toilets, building decks, painting, roofing, etc. If you have specific maintenance skills, we’d love to know about them. Cabin Counselors (2 males & 2 females per cabin each week):  You will be responsible for leading a cabin of 8 -10 campers with an assistant or co-counselor.  No previous camp experience is necessary; you will receive training prior to the start of camp. You must be at least 18 and a disciple in good standing for at least 6 months to be a Lead Counselor. Before signing up, please email Marcy Lindenmuth at to discuss or ask questions.

**Please note:¬†in the ACR R Camps & Teen Camps we do NOT allow parents to be counselors in their own child’s cabin. If your child has special needs that require you be with them, you will not be considered a counselor in the cabin, but a 1-1 for your child.

Crew Counselors (2 female/2 male per week): You and a co-counselor will be responsible for leading a cabin of 8-10 teenaged (8th-12th graders) campers serving on CREW.  The Crew will work with the Crew Chief during the day and you will be responsible for the campers after work hours. It is preferred that you have experience working with teens; you will receive training prior to the start of camp. You must be at least 18 and a disciple in good standing for at least 6 months to be a Lead Counselor.

Volunteer Fees:

‚ÄĘ An adult¬†with a child or children enrolled in a week of camp pays $40 to offset the cost of food.

‚ÄĘ An adult¬†without a child enrolled in camp pays $80 to offset the cost of food during your week at camp.

‚Äʬ†Couples with children enrolled in camp will pay $40 each, or a combined fee of $80, to offset the cost of food.

‚Äʬ†Couples without children enrolled in camp will pay a combined fee of $120 to offset the cost of food for their week at camp.

IMPORTANT: Hope for Kids does NOT want these fees to prohibit ANYONE from volunteering at camp. If you need to discuss fees, please contact Marcy Lindenmuth at
