Hope for Kids Junior Volunteer Instructions

PLEASE NOTE: Jr Volunteers may NOT stay at camp on the Saturday Night between camps without a Designated Responsible Adult (a parent type) who takes them off camp for meals and laundry and is completely responsible for them until they check in for the next week of camp!!! 

Steps to VOLUNTEER as a JR at Camp HFK:

  1. Complete the application on line, following the  VOLUNTEER APPLICATION  link above. Select the week of camp and the position.
  2. Once your references have been checked, you will receive your acceptance email from Camp Hope for Kids.
  3. Once all the steps above are completed, you will be contacted with confirmation of your volunteer position and week of camp.
  4. Lastly, pay your volunteer fee ($150 for a JR Volunteer & $80 for CAMPUS CAMP) and  Submit your VOLUNTARY DISCLOSURE FORM. 

Hope for Kids Jr. Volunteer Positions

Listed below are the volunteer positions for rising 8th-12th graders (13-18 year olds). Spots are limited and offered first-come first serve basis. We will do our best to honor your request for a certain position, however we reserve the right to change your position if it is in the best interest of the camp.

TEEN CAMP-CAMPUS CAMP (Asst. Teen Camp Counselors): You must be a disciple and a 2017 High School Graduate to apply. You will be responsible for assisting your Lead counselor in a teen camp cabin of 8 -10 campers. No previous experience is necessary; however you must be a member in good standing in your church. Your references will be very important.

JR Counselors for R Camp  (8 male & 8 Female spots per week):  You must be a disciple (of at least 6 months) and at least a rising High School Sophomore (10th grade). You will be responsible for assisting your Lead counselor in a cabin of 8 -10 campers. No previous experience is necessary; however you must be a member in good standing in your church. Your references will be very important.

CREW:¬†(10 Male & 10 Female spots per week): You must be 13-18 years old with strong recommendations. Your service in this position is what makes camp run! You will be serving ‚Äúbehind the scenes‚ÄĚ in many ways. On a rotating basis you will help in the kitchen, on the grounds, and with the activities. You will have a Counselor and Assistant living in your cabin. ¬†To be a CREW volunteer, you MUST be enrolled in another session of Teen Camp (or HYC or HFKLA) and paid in full.

**PLEASE NOTE**: Jr. Volunteers are limited to TWO weeks as a volunteer at camp and will NOT be automatically selected to volunteer for multiple weeks of camp. All Jr Volunteers will be evaluated each week that they serve and may or may not be approved to return.  Teens who are interested in being at camp for more than 2 weeks are encouraged to participate in the HFKLA!!! Volunteer Fees: The fee to serve at Camp as a CREW member or Junior Counselor is only $150!  At a mere $25 a day, this fee covers the cost of food for the week and 4 full time staff dedicated to this group to ensure that they have a structured, spiritual and supervised week at camp.

Steps to VOLUNTEER at Camp Hope for Kids:  

  1. Click on the link above to complete the application online.
  2. You will receive an email confirming we received your application & have checked your references once we’ve heard back from your reference.
  3. Your approval email will request anything else needed to complete the volunteer process. PLEASE don’t do ANYTHING else until you hear from us!!!!

Adult Volunteer Positions: 

These are the positions available for Adult Volunteers (over 18) at camp. Volunteer spots are limited and offered on a first-come first serve basis, so we encourage you submit the required information promptly. We will do our best to honor your request for a certain position, however we reserve the right to change your position if it is in the best interest of the camp. We cannot accommodate volunteers who wish to bring non-enrolled children or pets with them to volunteer.

Camp Hope for Kids also needs volunteers to renovate the Camp grounds and provide other services. If you have skills as a carpenter, landscaper, teacher, environmentalist, Gardner, chef, restaurant or kitchen manager, nurse, sports coach, dance or theater instructor, etc. please consider joining our volunteers. Camp Nurse (RN) (1-2 needed per week):¬†Must be a PHYSICIAN or a LICENSED RN with a PA license or a temporary license to practice in PA. Should have current CPR/First Aid certification. ¬†Responsible for intake and distribution of medications, treatment of minor injuries etc. No previous camp experience necessary. Allergy Kitchen Assistants (1-2 per week): You will prepare food for campers with food allergies. There is a separate kitchen where food for campers with allergies is kept and prepared. Experience with food allergies is very helpful. Questions can be emailed to Julie Brumley at julie@thebrumleys.com.

Infirmary Assistant (2-4 needed per week):  You will assist the Nurses with their duties, such as assisting with medications, cleaning bathrooms and washing laundry.  Current First Aid & CPR certification is a plus, but not necessary. Kitchen Assistants (6-8 needed per week): You will assist the cook by prepping, serving and cleaning for each meal. You should be able to stand for long periods of time and lift at least 15 lbs. No previous experience required.

Maintenance (4-6 needed per week) :¬†You will undertake many¬†maintenance type jobs around camp, such as repairing toilets, replacing toilets, building decks, painting, roofing, etc. If you have specific maintenance skills, we’d love to know about them. Cabin Counselors (2 males & 2 females per cabin each week):  You will be responsible for leading a cabin of 8 -10 campers with an assistant or co-counselor.  No previous camp experience is necessary; you will receive training prior to the start of camp. You must be at least 18 and a disciple in good standing for at least 6 months to be a Lead Counselor. **Please note:¬†in the ACR R Camps & Teen Camps we do NOT allow parents to be counselors in their own child’s cabin. If your child has special needs that require you be with them, you will not be considered a counselor in the cabin, but a 1-1 for your child.

Crew Counselors (2 female/2 male per week): You and a co-counselor will be responsible for leading a cabin of 8-10 Teen aged (8th-12th graders) campers serving on CREW.  The Crew will work with the Crew Chief during the day and you will be responsible for the campers after work hours. It is preferred that you have experience working with teens; you will receive training prior to the start of camp. You must be at least 18 and a disciple in good standing for at least 6 months to be a Lead Counselor.

VOLUNTEER FEES (New York Counselors do NOT pay a fee) 

  • An Adult with a child or children enrolled in a week of camp, pays $40 to offset the cost of food.
  • An Adult¬†without¬†a child enrolled in camp, pay $80 to offset the cost of food during your week at camp.
  • Couples without children enrolled in camp will pay a combined fee of $120 to offset the cost of food for their week at camp.
  • Couples with children enrolled in camp will pay $40 each or a combined fee of $80 to offset the cost of food.
